Prompt: Common App Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?

Greetings and salutations to whoever is reading this. I would like to talk about the influences’ mythology has on history and thus our culture. To grossly simplify Mythology is a collection of stories from religions and cultures. Which often do not fit neatly into the context of History: I mean that there are so many stories that are based on some real events that took place certain points but got changed from telling to telling. Take, for example, the story of King Arthur there are different versions of this story however it is a staple in the history of England’s culture. Mythology I find is a good topic to discuss because it leads to so many different avenues of conversation such as dreams time travel, which can be their own topics for another discussion, but it allows to engage in a very personal side of ourselves that is more than just a single person. It is so fascinating because of the lack of tone it’s not. One culture you can easily go from learning about how clever and funny a hero is all in another story you see them do the exact opposite of what they were born to do. Fun fact the Greek god Dionysus is known to be party God being associated with wine and parties. Older version of him is it God of the afterlife around getting insanely high. If we go back even further into other religions, we can see a lot of stories from Greek and Norse mythology, stories that are so influential that people use the heroes and gods in them to lead as an example of the potential. When it comes to my influences in mythology and history, the most influential example I can give is a YouTube channel called overly sarcastic Productions. Not only will you find that they have so many diverse topics on events in history and of random stories and events. The reason I like them is that they have a style that combines the cynical humor of most stand up comedians with the thoughtfulness and detail of a historian. Also being that they are college graduates there explanations feel fresh and easy to understand. Red is the girl who covers mythology and building up iconic characters to be memes in creative writing. Blue this the guy who covers the individual histories of the world while gushing over architecture like a lovesick preteen. I find it so fascinating that they make such things. at a glance would seem so boring and turn it into something that engages you and makes you want to look deeper into what went behind the story and why the story was made in such away.
